Calling all little monsters, midnight movie makers, and frightfully creative storytellers. The Passport to Summer Short Film Challenge gives participants the chance to create an original short film inspired by the spooky fun of the Frightful Family Film Fest. Enter for a chance to compete for prizes and see your work featured on the big screen, or join in just for the fun and earn your Passport to Summer stamp.

Official Rules & Submission Details

As part of Passport to Summer, V6 Media is inviting young creators and grown-up ghouls alike to enter the Passport to Summer Short Film Challenge, a frightfully fun film call tied to the Frightful Family Film Fest.

Participants may choose one of two ways to join:

  • Competition Entry
    Submit a film to be considered for screening at the Frightful Family Film Fest and to compete for prizes. After submitting your film, go to V6 Media to receive your passport stamp.

  • Stamp-Only Participation
    Create a film to earn your Passport to Summer stamp without entering the competition. Go to V6 Media and show the desk attendant your video for the stamp. You may also get your passport stamped at the School’s Out Movie Madness event at Roosevelt’s Constitution Park on May 23 and the Stars & Cars Drive-In event at Western Park on July 10.
Who Can Participate

All individuals, except for current V6 Media employees, are encouraged to participate. Entries are accepted in the following divisions:

  • Elementary & Younger
  • Middle School
  • High School
  • Adult

Films should capture the spirit of the Frightful Family Film Fest.

.Think: spooky fun, mystery, playful suspense, imaginative storytelling, and family-friendly thrills

This is not a horror contest. All entries must be appropriate for a public, family audience.

Video Requirements

Please make sure your film meets the following technical guidelines:

  • Maximum length: 2 minutes
  • Accepted file types: MP4 or MOV
  • Preferred format: horizontal / landscape
  • Audio should be clear and easy to hear.
  • The video should be complete and ready for viewing.
  • Avoid footage that is too dark or difficult to see.
Media Release & Event Use

By submitting a competition entry, participants and parents/guardians acknowledge that:

  • Submitted videos may be reviewed by V6 Media for eligibility and event use,
  • Selected entries may be shown publicly during the Frightful Family Film Fest,
  • Entries may be used by V6 Media in connection with promoting the challenge, the festival, or related community programming,
  • Submission does not guarantee finalist selection, screening, or prize placement,
  • Participants retain the ownership of their films, and
  • Participants are responsible for their submissions and any claims arising from them.

For stamp-only participants, videos will be viewed for Passport to Summer participation only and will not be entered into the competition unless separately submitted through the official competition process.

General Rules

All films, whether submitted for competition or stamp-only participation, must follow these rules:

  • Films must be the original work of the participant and may not infringe the rights of any third party;
  • Maximum runtime is 2 minutes;
  • Content must be family-friendly and suitable for all ages;
  • Films must comply with applicable law and may not contain profanity, hateful speech, graphic violence, gore, sexual content, or offensive material;
  • No copyrighted music, movie clips, television footage, or other material used without permission;
  • If other people appear in the video, the participant must have permission from each person that appears and, if that person(s) is/are under 18, permission from a parent or guardian;
  • Each participant may submit one entry via online only;
  • V6 Media reserves the right to disqualify any submission that does not meet content, eligibility, or technical requirements; and
  • Films must comply with applicable law and may not contain profanity, hateful graphic violence, gore, sexual content, or offensive material.

Finalist Selection & Prizes

All eligible competition entries will be reviewed by V6 Media. Selected finalist films will make their big-screen debut at the Frightful Family Film Fest, where winners in each division will be announced and prizes distributed. All selections are final.

Entries may be judged based on:

  • Creativity,
  • Originality,
  • Storytelling,
  • Effort,
  • Overall presentation, and
  • Fit for the event.

Prizes for Each Division

  • 1st Place: $100 Visa gift card.
  • 2nd Place: $50 Visa gift card.
  • 3rd Place: $25 Visa gift card.

It all leads to one frightfully fun finale, with standout films, live audience excitement, and winning entries celebrated at the Frightful Family Film Fest on October 10, 2026.
